在全球範圍內,許多學生擁有便捷而連續的訪問媒體的可能,然而他們通常對於媒體消費的影響力知之甚少。依據聯合國教科文組織課程第一單元,第七組的指導,本文概述了《沒有媒體的24小時》所描述的行為。2010年秋,來自五大洲、12所大學的、將近1000名學生,參加了《未接駁的世界》的研究。 馬里蘭大學的研究人員收集了學生們對於脫離媒體的研究任務作出的陳述性回饋,並利用根基深厚的理論和分析性的不明推論式,在IBM的ManyEyes電腦分析軟體的輔助下,對這些回饋進行了分析。 結果顯示,脫離媒體的研究任務使得學生們對自己身的媒體習慣有了更顯著的認識——其中很多人表達了對媒體的“成癮”——這一發現也是每個國家中的多數人承認那些試圖離線、脫離媒體的努力最終徹底失敗的一個有力的證明。學生們同時表示,經常地接觸數位技術已經成為他們個人身份內化的一部分;那對他們構建和管理他們的工作和社會生活十分必要。《未接駁的世界》促成了實驗性學習;學生們獲得了對於媒體在他們生活中所扮演的角色的自我意識的提升;教職人員也藉以更好地理解他們的學生使用互聯網的模式,使得他們能更好地幫助年輕人擁有更強的媒體讀寫理解能力。
