Abstract

Social communication media, and particularly television, constitute a significant part of the daily life of adults, adolescents and children. Access to this media has made watching television the main activity carried out by Chilean children during their free time in Chile. There is a great number of studies about children, youngsters and television, but only a few question why they watch television and what it is they like about it. This study addresses this issue, and, considering that Chilean studies on children indicate that 64.7% of them watch Cartoons, the paper focus on this type of television program for children.
