Resumo

As novas tecnologias introduziram profundas mudanças em nosso meio e no modo de nos relacionarmos com os demais. A televisão, o telefone celular e a internet abriram novas possibilidades de comunicação, entretenimento e formação para muitas pessoas. Porém, para alguns indivíduos ou grupos sociais o acesso a novas tecnologias pode ser condicionado por diferentes barreiras. Um dos grupos que geralmente são “invisíveis” nas pesquisas sobre comunicação e novas tecnologias é o de pessoas com deficiência intelectual (DI). Na presente pesquisa participaram 156 pessoas adultas com DI (trabalhadores e usuários dos programas da Fundação Carmen Pardo - Valcarce em Madri, Espanha). Foi realizado um estudo exploratório com o fim de caracterizar, em termos gerais, os padrões do uso de novas tecnologias de comunicação (internet e telefones celulares) dos participantes, assim como os padrões de utilização da televisão. Em conclusão, pode-se notar que os padrões de comportamento de pessoas com DI em relação a novas tecnologias, em termos gerais, aproximam-se aos da população em geral. Somente em aspectos específicos podemos encontrar diferenças significativas. Em alguns casos, tais diferenças podem atribuir-se diretamente à DI; entretanto, é necessário levar em conta um possível efeito estigmatizante atuando nas pessoas que rodeiam o indivíduo com DI, o que pode motivar comportamentos discriminatórios.
