Resumo

Ainda que as redes sociais (os Sites de Redes Sociais- SRS, especialmente o Facebook) tenham se popularizado entre a juventude, existem alguns alunos universitários que não desejam participar delas. Esta pesquisa explora quais são as razões subjacentes a esse comportamento. O grupo experimental (n=20) foi formado por alunos de licenciatura entre 18 a 25 anos, selecionados mediante uma amostra intencional, com dados recolhidos em duas grandes universidades estatais da Turquia. O Facebook foi selecionado para contextualizar essa pesquisa em razão de ser uma das redes sociais mais populares. Os métodos de pesquisa qualitativa foram empregados no recolhimento e análise dos dados. As principais razões para a não utilização das redes sociais são a percepção individual de ser uma perda de tempo ou uma ferramenta desnecessária, possibilidade de se tornar um vício, violação das normas de privacidade, compartilhamento excessivo de informações e por trazer preocupação aos familiares. Os resultados indicaram ainda que a maioria dos alunos não confia em suas amizades virtuais e não gostam de compartilhar suas fotos e nem opiniões políticas online. Ter identificado as atitudes frente aos SRS dos alunos não usuários nos ajudará a entender melhor as percepções e experiências individuais relacionadas com estes serviços sociais.
