本文对青春期少年在Fotolog这个图片博客网站上的自我展现的定量定性分析得出结论。这些青少年在网站上创造和分享的图像全都围绕着他们的自我,在这儿性别和性成为表现的中心点。我们发现,戈夫曼在他影响深远的关于广告中性别超仪式的研究中所定义的归类似乎也同样很好地适用于我们对当今青少年在社交网络网站(SNS)中自我展现的分析。在我们的样本中,我们也察觉到其他"性别展示"的图形,比如说,象基尔这类作者在他们的广告研究中识别到的女同性恋姿势或色情等。然而,尽管青少年上传到SNS的很多图片都在复制老一套的性别模式和男性支配样式,就象已经在广告中发现的那些那样,我们无法回避这样的事实:的确存在千变万化的图像,这些图像真的富于某些独创性,都归因于青少年关于性别和性方面的身份协商(谈判以定位)在这种特定情况下发生着,这种性别和性方面的身份协商也通过他们常参与的其他媒体活动发生着。为了避免陈腐的性别模式的轻率复制,为他们这些自我展示背后至关重要的身份协商做出贡献,在媒体教育中应该贯穿这样的观察:青少年在SNS的活动是如何被他们在其他媒体终端的所见所闻所读所滋养的,这些见闻又是如何主导这些年轻用户在这些网络上展示自己的。
