Resumo

O uso da Internet oferece um importante espaço para o desenvolvimento social, emocional e cognitivo dos jovens e ocupa grande parte de seu tempo livre. Portanto, é muito importante observar algumas variáveis que contribuem para melhorar seu uso como fonte de informação e conhecimento em contextos formais e informais. Como, então, aproveitar o enorme potencial dessa ferramenta para ajudar as pessoas em sua aprendizagem? Quais são as características cognitivas e sociais que ajudam a utilizá-la sem que lhes afete negativamente? Quais habilidades são necessárias para selecionar e gerenciar a informação e a comunicação? Quais formas de usos da Internet suscitam aprendizagem e relações novas e diferentes? Em uma amostra de 191 sujeitos, examinam-se as diferentes características entre os sujeitos com alto e baixo nível de uso. Os resultados mostram que os indivíduos com alto nível de uso da Internet têm uma pontuação mais alta no que se refere às características de extroversão e abertura. A pesquisa se baseia em um quadro teórico que parte da análise do uso da Internet em um contexto informal para chegar a uma reflexão sobre as possibilidades e vantagens que podem ser derivadas de seu uso na educação, do conjunto de habilidades que é necessário desenvolver para utilizar e avalizar a informação de maneira crítica e analítica e para construir uma mente aberta e uma atitude independente.
