Resumo

É crescente o interesse dos pesquisadores por constatar os benefícios que o uso da internet traz às pessoas idosas. A rede ajuda este grupo a ampliar a comunicação, evitar o isolamento e a solidão e, em suma, a promover um envelhecimento ativo, objetivo ao qual a Europa se dedicou em 2012. Este trabalho apresenta um estudo descritivo de análise de séries temporais, realizado ao longo de nove anos (de 2004 a 2012) com o objetivo de conhecer a evolução no nível, motivos e necessidades do uso do computador e da internet por pessoas idosas com formação universitária. Aplicou-se um questionário próprio a uma amostra de 419 pessoas com idades compreendidas entre 55 e 94 anos, alunos do Programa Interuniversitário da Experiência na Universidade de Burgos. Os resultados coincidem com estudos prévios que apontam uma notável ampliação do uso da internet (em número de usuários, frequência e recursos utilizados), os idosos são motivados pelo desejo de estarem ativos, atualizados, e em comunicação, assim como pela necessidade de seguir aprendendo sobre as ferramentas vinculadas à rede. São apresentadas propostas de melhoria centrada na formação dos idosos, e pesquisas futuras sobre sua percepção da internet como ferramenta de participação social.
