Resumo

Neste estudo, analisamos a evolução do conceito de exclusão digital para idosos, sob a perspectiva do envelhecimento ativo e no contexto de utilização das redes sociais como meio de comunicação. Consideramos que as variáveis sociodemográficas não possuem o poder necessário para explicar a utilização ou não das tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TICs) pelos idosos. As variantes de cunho psicológico, como a idade cognitiva, a ansiedade tecnológica ou o nível de audácia, complementam as anteriores e, inclusive, podem ser mais explicativas sobre o comportamento dos idosos em relação à utilização das redes sociais. Os resultados, provenientes de uma amostra de idosos, alunos da Sala de Aula de Experiência de uma universidade, permitem-nos confirmar que nossas dúvidas sobre o estereótipo dos idosos a respeito da exclusão digital são corretas e que as variáveis psicológicas servem, em maior grau, para mostrar as diferenças significativas existentes entre usuários e não usuários das redes sociais, quanto à determinação do perfil dos mesmos. Pessoas da terceira idade que são usuárias dessas redes se sentem mais jovens, experimentam um nível menor de ansiedade tecnológica e são mais audaciosas. Em geral, as características psicológicas oferecem, portanto, maior poder discriminante que as sociodemográficas, por isso propomos o conceito de exclusão psico-digital.
