Resumo

As emoções têm adquirido uma importância crescente em nossa época, em todos os âmbitos da sociedade. Esta revalorização da dimensão afetiva pessoal reflete-se, também, em sua inclusão como objeto de estudo em pesquisas de inúmeras áreas do saber. Também dentro dos estudos em Comunicação, e, especialmente em relação à tecnologia digital, existe um interesse acadêmico pelas emoções. Por meio de uma profunda revisão bibliográfica, neste trabalho faz-se um mapa do campo de estudo no qual convergem as emoções e a tecnologia digital; mais concretamente, no uso da Internet. Nele se adverte um campo de pesquisa vibrante, amplo e complexo, em que confluem aproximações de diferentes tipos, tanto no plano teórico como no metodológico. O artigo apresenta um panorama das pesquisas realizadas nesta matéria, que abrange desde o estudo das redes sociais como espaços de interação em que as emoções são expressas, até o contágio emocional em grande escala ou a análise de sentimentos nas plataformas digitais. Conclui-se que a Rede não apenas desperta emoções em seus usuários e serve de canal para a expressão dos afetos, mas que também influencia o modo como este afeto é modulado e exposto, assim como na configuração da identidade da pessoa.
