Resumo

O presente artigo busca identificar de que modo a opinião pública se articulou na rede social Twitter durante a visita do então candidato republicano Donald Trump à Cidade do México no ano de 2016, a convite do governo mexicano, que foi precedida pela ameaça de construção de um muro na fronteira, obra que deveria ser subsidiada pelo governo mexicano. Mediante uma investigação mista composta por métodos computacionais, tais como a mineração de dados e a análise de redes sociais combinada com a análise de conteúdo, identificam-se os padrões de conversação e as estruturas de redes que se configuraram a partir desse acontecimento referente à política externa de ambas as nações que compartilham uma extensa fronteira. Estudaram-se as práticas midiáticas digitais e as circunstâncias emocionais com as quais os usuários da citada rede social se envolveram na polêmica visita marcada por uma complexa relação política, cultural e histórica. A análise de 352.203 tuítes em dois idiomas (inglês e espanhol), os mais utilizados durante as conversas, permitiu compreender de que forma a opinião pública transnacional se articula em ações conectivas incitadas por eventos noticiosos em distintos contextos culturais, bem como as circunstâncias emocionais que permearam a conversação, cujas diferenças perceptíveis demonstram que, quando se fala de Twitter, não se trata de um universo homogêneo, mas de um conjunto de universos codeterminados pelo contexto sociocultural.
