Resumo

A crescente expansão do acesso à internet e o uso massivo das plataformas de redes sociais e dos motores de busca fizeram com que os meios digitais enfrentassem desafios tais como a necessidade de manter as notícias atualizadas constantemente, a imensa complexidade de identificar fontes, a dificuldade de exercer a função de «gatekeeper» em meio a um ambiente fragmentado onde as opiniões, os preconceitos e as ideias preconcebidas de especialistas juntamente com seus seguidores, os usuários do Twitter, etc., adquiriram influência e poder decisivo, além do crescimento da pressão para se publicar certas notícias simplesmente por que elas vendem. Ademais, precisam dividir a audiência com agregadores cujo negócio consiste em difundir conteúdos produzidos por editores de notícias digitais, blogs e «feeds» RSS, que realizam a seleção baseada em algoritmos de busca, em votações de usuários ou nas preferências dos leitores. O fato de que tais sistemas computadorizados de distribuição de notícias raramente consideram os critérios jornalísticos sugere que o trabalho de seleção passa por um processo de reestruturação que elimina progressivamente os jornalistas do processo de decidir o que é de interesse jornalístico. Este estudo a respeito das tendências descritas foi realizado por meio de uma análise de 47 parâmetros em 30 agregadores de notícias que atualmente oferecem conteúdo sindicado, além de 8 entrevistas semiestruturadas com editores de mídias digitais de qualidade e de alta difusão publicadas nos Estados Unidos, na Espanha e em Portugal.
