Резюме

Эмотиконы стали обычным явлением в электронной переписке между студентами и преподавателями. Для студентов эти средства невербальной коммуникации являются способом добавить контекст или акцент к своим сообщениям. Однако для большинства учителей использование смайликов считается неуместным и непрофессиональным. Поскольку все больше студентов включают смайлики в свои электронные сообщения учителям, мы задались целью изучить взаимосвязь между использованием смайликов и восприятием учителями электронных сообщений студентов со смайликами и без них. Мы изучили сообщения студентов, обратив особое внимание на уместность стиля письма студентов, оценили уровень цифровой грамотности студентов, их отношение к преподавателю и гендерные различия в использовании смайликов. Мы собрали электронные письма студентов и оценили их по нескольким параметрам. Кроме того, мы использовали онлайн-опросник для выявления характерных различий между студентами, использующими смайлики, и теми, кто их не использует. Результаты показывают, что сообщения со смайликами оцениваются ниже, чем сообщения без смайликов по нескольким параметрам. Студенты, использующие смайлики, также демонстрируют более низкий уровень цифровой грамотности и воспринимают своих учителей как более благожелательных и отзывчивых. Вопреки нашим ожиданиям, использование смайликов не связано с полом. Результаты показывают, что студентам следует избегать использования смайликов, поскольку преподаватель ожидает от них соответствующего поведения в Интернете.
