Resumo

Apesar dos esforços recentes para examinar os resultados políticos do uso da mídia social, pouco se sabe sobre o reforço do empoderamento político. É vital compreender os elementos que influenciam os níveis desse empoderamento. Desta forma, artigo usou uma amostra de eleitores paquistaneses (n = 410) na faixa etária de 18 a 29 anos para fornecer insights sobre como o uso das mídias sociais, juntamente com outros comportamentos políticos, como partidarismo, expressão política e interesse político, afetam o empoderamento político. A Teoria da Identidade Social (TIS) e a Teoria da Escolha Racional forneceram a base teórica para as variáveis deste estudo. Análises estatísticas foram realizadas usando mínimos quadrados parciais (PLS) para avaliar os efeitos de quatro variáveis, ou seja, uso de mídia social, partidarismo político, expressão política e interesse político, no empoderamento político. Este estudo fez uma contribuição significativa para a literatura de pesquisa, combinando ambas as teorias em um único quadro. O trabalho também amplia a literatura sobre interesse político ao introduzi-lo como moderador no que se refere à relação inconsistente entre expressão política e empoderamento político. Os resultados mostraram que o partidarismo e o uso das mídias sociais influenciaram positivamente a expressão política entre os jovens eleitores. Além disso, o interesse político moderou positivamente a relação entre expressão política e empoderamento político.
