Resumo

Apesar da democratização do acesso aos meios digitais, ainda existem lacunas nos usos e oportunidades de acordo com idade, gênero, nível socioeconômico e localização. Além disso, estudos sobre o uso de mídias digitais por crianças e adolescentes têm focado mais nos riscos do que nas oportunidades. Este estudo analisa a relação entre os usos das mídias digitais (socialização, sociopolítica e aprendizagem) e o engajamento cívico escolar. Uma amostra de 524 estudantes (M=12; 43,7% meninas) de Santiago do Chile participou da pesquisa. Um modelo de equação estrutural com variáveis latentes foi usado para testar um modelo de mediação paralelo em que o uso de mídias digitais para socialização está relacionado ao engajamento cívico escolar, por meio do uso de mídias digitais para fins sociopolíticos e de aprendizagem. Finalmente, uma análise multigrupo por gênero foi realizada. Os resultados mostraram que o uso de mídias digitais para socialização tem um efeito positivo no engajamento cívico escolar por meio da mediação paralela do uso de mídias digitais para fins sociopolíticos e o uso de mídias digitais para fins de aprendizagem. A análise multigrupo mostrou que a mediação é significativa tanto em homens quanto em mulheres. Os resultados ampliam o conhecimento sobre as oportunidades das mídias digitais para o engajamento cívico em contextos escolares.
