Resumo

A partir das orientações teóricas e metodológicas prévias sobre meios de comunicação e gerações, este artigo apresenta um processo de pesquisa e aprendizagem a partir da supervisão do trabalho de campo desempenhado por estudantes graduados no Congresso de Pós- graduação em Meios de Comunicação na Faculdade de Humanidades e Ciências Sociais da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Os alunos envolvidos conseguiram adquirir conhecimento contextual sobre o uso dos meios de comunicação na geração de seus avós e na de seus pais em Portugal, atuando como facilitadores nos grupos de discussão, formados sempre por participantes mais velhos, explorando as diferenças e similaridades intrageracionais que emergem em grupos de diferentes idades e levando a cabo uma reflexão crítica sobre a experiência em seus relatórios individuais. A escolha dos grupos de discussão como ferramenta para a pesquisa e a escolha do tema no âmbito do Estudo dos Meios de Comunicação resultou muito eficaz. Este artigo pretende defender a potencialidade desta relação intergeracional entre os facilitadores e os membros dos grupos de discussão como forma de ativar a interação entre grupos, permitindo, por exemplo, que os participantes assumam uma atitude explicativa para eles mesmos. As notas finais que se apresentam contemplam as vantagens desta metodologia para a Educação em Meios de Comunicação e para diferentes ramos desses estudos, como a história dos meios de comunicação e história social, o jornalismo ou a participação política.
