Resumo

A educação pública em diversos países está experimentando uma série de reformas que favorecem a integração da tecnologia na educação pública e a aprendizagem precoce do inglês. O presente estudo misto examinou o emprego da tecnologia nas práticas pedagógicas cotidianas dos professores de inglês na educação secundária pública e os recursos tecnológicos de que dispõem normalmente em suas escolas. Para a fase quantitativa empregou-se um abordagem descritivo-exploratória, através de um questionário tipo Likert aplicado a 28 professores e 2.944 alunos em 17 municípios do sudeste mexicano. Para a qualitativa, empregou-se um estudo de múltiplos casos com um subgrupo de seis professores do qual foram coletadas informações através de observações de aulas, entrevistas com docentes e diretores, e visitas às instalações das escolas. O emprego de análise não-paramétrica com os dados quantitativos e de agregação categórica com os dados qualitativos permitiu identificar alguns recursos multimídia e de comunicação móvel que os professores tendem a utilizar cotidianamente em sala de aula. Entretanto, diversos fatores relacionados com aspectos próprios da educação pública e do contexto escolar influíram para que os professores preferissem seus próprios meios tecnológicos, tais como computadores portáteis, telefones inteligentes e materiais multimídia aos disponíveis em sua instituição.
