Resumo
Este trabalho tem como foco o papel da imagem como agente de mudança social. A metodologia empregada é um estudo de caso sobre o impacto da fotografia de Aylan Kurdi, a criança de três anos que morreu afogada durante a tentativa de fuga de migrantes sírios em uma balsa em Bodrum. São documentos recentes de fotojornalismo social, de ampla difusão internacional e com grande impacto nas redes sociais. O estudo aborda diferentes níveis de análise (iconográfico, iconológico e ético) para revelar os aspectos constitutivos de uma imagem com poder de mudança social. Como principais conclusões, a pesquisa comprova o poder da imagem gráfica digital por sua característica de fácil reedição e ressignificação para transformar simbolicamente a realidade e gerar processos de manifestação e ativismo na cidadania, a partir de ambientes digitais. Os resultados da análise do caso apresentado mostram como o valor de uma imagem no processo de mudança social não é dado apenas pela magnitude da tragédia ou pelo fato registrado, tampouco por seus aspectos formais (iconográficos), e sim por ser capaz de expressar uma mudança de lógica (aspecto iconológico) e propiciar processos de reapropriação e denúncia cidadã. Por fim, o debate ético sobre sua difusão transfere o problema da deontologia jornalística para a responsabilidade dos cidadãos.
