Resumo

Este artigo analisa o tratamento dado pela mídia espanhola a um determinado tipo de imigrante: o menor estrangeiro não acompanhado (“MENA”, em espanhol). Os meios de comunicação desempenham um papel relevante na criação e disseminação de ideias e imagens junto ao público, de modo que promovem a articulação de conjuntos de significados denominados discursos. O objetivo desta pesquisa é identificar as abordagens discursivas construídas em torno do termo “MENA” nos principais jornais diários espanhóis. Para tal, recolhemos e analisamos todas as notícias publicadas entre 1º de janeiro de 2017 e 31 de outubro de 2019 nas edições digitais dos quatro jornais mais lidos da Espanha (La Vanguardia, El País, El Mundo e ABC). Essa análise foi realizada usando técnicas de mineração de dados, também conhecida como data mining (um campo importante na ciência de dados), «term frequency» e de «inverse document frequency» . Essas técnicas, junto à construção de redes de correlação entre palavras, permitiram observar que o termo “MENA” evoca um discurso assistencialista, criminalizante e moralista, baseado em uma perspectiva adultocêntrica e nacionalista. O estudo concluiu que a imprensa conservadora usa a sigla com mais frequência do que a mídia progressista, mas sem divergências significativas quanto à linguagem utilizada.
