Comunicar Journal 18: Discovering Media (Vol. 9 - 2002)

Abstract

The development of new methodologies for analysing –and really improving– people’s communication by means of media is sluggish. The reasons for this often relate to the media themselves, the politics, the teachers’ situation and an insufficient pedagogy. A recent trend in media education worldwide is to stress students’ own production. The outcomes are in several respects in accordance with, e.g., Paulo Freire’s and John De-wey’s theories. The elaboration of new methodologies for analysing media education would benefit from such well-tried pedagogic methodologies in combination with me-dia and communication research.
