Comunicar Journal 19: Communication and Popularization of Science (Vol. 10 - 2002)

Geography and travels in scientific journalism

Abstract

Traditionally, the image of science has been burdened with some negative connotations that have not favoured its popularization among the great public. Associating science to something abrupt, boring, complex and unaware to our lives has been a constant for many years. Some of these negative images were even inculcated at school. The media today have to try to avoid these prejudices. In this paper, some strategies are pointed out to appeal the reader with different –and sometimes forgotten– images of science. One of these strategies is closely linked to the exciting world of trips.
