That scientific knowledge has no boundaries is an undeniable fact and that scientific journals have contributed to spread science and make it reach all or almost all corners of the world as well. However, every researcher must master a series of strategies to ensure that their work has international impact and recognition.

The School of Authors, in previous entries has already provided some keys that guarantee the success of a publication, but it is necessary that the researcher, novel or not, take into account a series of actions, as a decalogue, to ensure the international presence:

  1. Read publications from researchers from other countries
  2. Register in scientific networks like Academia.edu and Researchgate
  3. Follow networks of researchers of an international character
  4. Keep informed of calls for projects from international organizations
  5. Search for calls for mobility aid to other countries
  6. Attending Congresses abroad
  7. Disseminate our publications and projects prioritizing foreign followers and prioritizing that others recognize you
  8. Contact researchers from other countries and offer us as partners / partners in your projects
  9. Invite foreign researchers to collaborate in our precious research projects
  10. Send at least 50% of our articles to foreign magazines

To leave our environment, to contact other researchers close to our theme, to be part of international teams and, above all, to travel to other countries, overcoming geographical and sometimes institutional or bureaucratic barriers poses a challenge for many researchers that require a careful and well-planned planning of our professional trajectory, which must be initiated at the moment of enrolling in an international doctorate.

Our international presence must be endorsed by the publication of our works in scientific journals located in the best positions of WOS or SCOPUS, as we proposed in an earlier entry of this blog.

Selecting these journals is fundamental for our internationalization of our research, but we must pay particular attention to their repercussion and international recognition, which is specified in quality criteria that we must contrast:

  1. Languages in which their works are published
  2. International databases in which they are indexed
  3. Composition of the scientific committee with researchers from many countries
  4. International co-editions
  5. Reviewers from countries other than the edition
  6. Commitment of the magazine in a policy of disseminating its articles methodically, rigorously and impactfully

Comunicar journal is a good example of a magazine that guarantees the international presence of its authors, since in addition to its printed and digital publication in Spanish and English, it has a Chinese edition and a Brazilian edition of all the titles and abstracts of its publications. It also has four International Co-editions: English co-editing, Chinese co-editing, Portuguese co-editing and Latin American co-editing. Its Scientific Committee consists of more than 60 experts of recognized prestige from many countries. The International Council of Scientific Reviewers has more than five hundred reviewers from more than forty countries. It is also indexed in almost 90 international selective databases, which guarantees the commitment to disseminate the work entrusted to it by its authors. Comunicar also offers up-to-date data on its metrics regarding the number of readers, just over 352,000 from more than 255 countries, as well as the presence of authors by country.
