Resumo

A partir de uma pesquisa realizada com 122 jornalistas de quatro jornais espanhóis entre 2015 e 2016, o artigo estuda o quanto estes profissionais percebem uma desconexão – uma lacuna– entre seus ideais e sua atuação, e quais são as funções mais «conflitantes» em um contexto de um sistema midiático pluralista e polarizado. De acordo com a percepção dos profissionais entrevistados, os resultados indicam que os jornalistas apresentam um conflito de papéis já que foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre a concepção de seis das setes funções profissionais e a percepção do que colocam em prática. As maiores divergências estão na função de jornalista investigativo, cívico e disseminador. Os conflitos se resolveram em todos os casos a favor do interesse de quem possui o poder e contra os ideais dos jornalistas. Estes resultados são congruentes e apoiam as descobertas de publicações prévias que retratam o sistema midiático pluralista e polarizado como um ecossistema midiático onde os jornalistas, como um coletivo, acumulam pouco poder quando comparado ao ostentado pelas organizações midiáticas, endividadas por uma excessiva «financierização» e dependentes do poder político e econômico. Os resultados são discutidos de acordo com a literatura existente, assim como com o contexto em que foi realizada a pesquisa.
