Resumo

A influência dos algoritmos na sociedade está aumentando devido à sua crescente presença em todas as áreas da vida cotidiana. Embora nem sempre tenhamos consciência disso, às vezes eles usurpam a identidade dos atores sociais. O principal objetivo deste artigo é abordar a metapesquisa no campo da inteligência artificial e da comunicação a partir de uma perspectiva holística que nos permite analisar o estado da pesquisa acadêmica, bem como os possíveis efeitos sobre essas áreas e sobre o sistema democrático. Para tanto, realizamos uma revisão sistematizada da literatura recente utilizando abordagens quantitativas e qualitativas. O assunto analisado é mutável e inovador: inclui o impacto e a interação de algoritmos, bots, processos automatizados e mecanismos de inteligência artificial no jornalismo e na comunicação, bem como seus efeitos na democracia. Os resultados mostram uma produção científica em expansão, majoritariamente em língua inglesa, pautada na discussão teórica ou focada na percepção dos profissionais da comunicação. O objeto de estudo centra-se maioritariamente no jornalismo e na democracia e, em menor grau, na ética e na educação. Estudos indicam grande interesse pelos efeitos do uso de algoritmos no jornalismo e na democracia, mas as respostas ainda são incertas e os desafios para os próximos anos são significativos.
