Resumo

A educação nos e para os meios de comunicação é uma necessidade inegável que pouco a pouco, e de forma pouco satisfatória, está sendo introduzida na educação formal. Essa ação, por outro lado, deveria ser complementada por um esforço dos meios audiovisuais de também se tornarem responsáveis pela tarefa educacional, não educando diretamente, mas sim tentando fazer com que suas emissões sejam coerentes com os valores que a educação procura transmitir. Os Conselhos Audiovisuais podem exercer uma função no impulso da educação midiática, fazendo com que o sistema educacional assuma a responsabilidade de formar jovens para o bom uso da televisão, da internet e das outras “telas” que constituem o entorno habitual. Ao mesmo tempo, os Conselhos estão em condições de ajudar os profissionais da mídia a aplicar e interpretar a legislação relacionada aos conteúdos audiovisuais de uma forma livre e responsável, facilitando assim a auto-regulação. O artigo traz as experiências realizadas pelo Conselho Audiovisual da Catalunha para promover o letramento midiático.
