Resumo

A competência em línguas estrangeiras, a consciência global e a comunicação intercultural são cada vez mais reconhecidas como aspectos essenciais da participação produtiva no âmbito econômico, cívico, político e social do século XXI. Como consequência, a promoção internacional destas competências adquire uma importância única no espectro da educação infantil, ensino fundamental e médio nos Estados Unidos. O conjunto de novos objetivos para os estudantes de hoje implica o desenvolvimento de novas competências entre docentes que não tenham sido contempladas até agora nas iniciativas de desenvolvimento profissional realizadas nos Estados Unidos, e pouco se sabe sobre a aquisição destas competências entre os educadores. Estas competências podem ser entendidas segundo o modelo de competência comunicativa intercultural de Byram (1997), cujos princípios de desenvolvimento se baseiam em apontar a aprendizagem on-line como uma ferramenta eficaz para a aquisição de competências entre docentes. Este artigo apresenta a análise de vários estudos sobre a aprendizagem intercultural, aprendizagem intercultural e tecnologia, e o desenvolvimento profissional on-line de professores, com o intuito de suscitar a possibilidade das três dimensões. Em suma, revela uma série de princípios sobre o projeto educativo promovido pela construção destas competências interculturais junto aos professores, entre os quais evidencia que as tecnologias em rede aplicadas à aprendizagem on-line possuem aspectos únicos para desenvolver as competências interculturais em todas as áreas.
