Resumo

O plágio tem gerado crescentes preocupações no currículo acadêmico nas últimas décadas. Embora estudiosos anteriores tenham investigado o plágio do estudante sob várias perspectivas, ainda existe pouca pesquisa sobre como os professores universitários entendem o plágio e respondem perante ele, especialmente em contextos escritos no ensino do inglês como língua estrangeira (EFL). Como especialistas acadêmicos e educadores de futuros acadêmicos, os professores universitários desempenham um papel chave na formação dos estudantes contra o plágio e na defesa da integridade acadêmica. Seus conhecimentos e atitudes em relação ao plágio não só exercem uma influência crucial sobre as percepções do estudante quanto ao plágio, mas também podem proporcionar ideias sobre como as universidades podem resolver o problema. O presente estudo, centrado em uma amostra de 108 professores de 38 universidades chinesas, pretende abordar esse desequilíbrio na pesquisa sobre o plágio. Com base nos dados quantitativos e qualitativos obtidos de análises textuais e redações, examina-se: 1) se os docentes de EFL nas universidades chinesas compartilham os conceitos anglo-americanos de plágio; 2) qual é sua postura nos casos de plágio detectados; 3) quais os fatores que podem influenciar suas compreensões. Os resultados deste estudo problematizam a opinião popular e simplista de que os escritores chineses de inglês como língua estrangeira são indulgentes quanto ao plágio, e assinalam que as experiências acadêmicas e educativas têm muita influência sobre suas percepções e atitudes em relação ao plágio.
