Abstract

In this article, I analyze several characteristics of science and technology which have studies (STS). These characteristics imply some important conclusions for the infor: science and technology are activities which are dependent, up to a certain point, on public policies supported by the taxpayers, and open to public debate and social monitoring; they are related to political questions like the kind of society we would like to live in or the level of social justice in the distribution of technological risks, and they are a key factor in policy making and policy evaluation, that is, a key factor in the governability of contemporary societies.
