Resumo

Neste estudo são apresentados os principais achados sobre as “teen series”, ou seja, as séries televisivas de ficção protagonizadas por personagens adolescentes e dirigidas expressamente a uma audiência juvenil. A análise do retrato dos jovens representados em produtos especificamente dirigidos a um público juvenil tem um valor muito significativo tanto pela produção de ficção como pela recepção, já que os potenciais consumidores encontram-se em um momento decisivo do processo de construção de suas identidades. Depois de revisar os principais antecedentes no estudo da representação dos jovens na ficção televisiva, descreve-se o referencial conceitual relativo às “teen series” e se discute sua relação com o consumo juvenil. A seguir se apresenta um estudo de caso que consiste em uma análise do conteúdo da série norte-americana “Dawson’s creek”, realizada sobre uma amostra representativa de três temporadas da série, para analisar dois grupos de variáveis: variáveis relativas aos personagens e variáveis relativas às tramas e aos conflitos. São discutidos os resultados relativos ao segundo grupo de variáveis, com particular atenção às características das tramas e ao papel dos personagens no desenvolvimento e na resolução das mesmas. A aceitação da identidade pessoal, o amor e a amizade são as temáticas mais recorrentes. Além disso, as relações sociais entre os personagens exerceram um papel fundamental no desenvolvimento das tramas e dos conflitos.
