Resumo

Este trabalho estuda o impacto das legendas no mesmo idioma da narrativa audiovisual segundo o idioma do receptor (nativo ou estrangeiro). Estudantes de duas universidades australianas e uma espanhola foram designados aleatoriamente a um de dois grupos experimentais nos quais assistiam a um drama com a trilha sonora original em inglês com legendas nessa mesma língua (n=81) ou sem legendas (n=92). A amostra incluía um grupo de controle de falantes nativos de inglês, além de grupos de falantes nativos de chinês mandarim, coreano e espanhol com inglês como língua estrangeira. Como medidas post-hoc, os participantes reportaram, mediante escalas Likert, sua percepção de presença, transporte, realismo percebido, identificação com os personagens e prazer. Os resultados mostram que as legendas não reduzem as medidas de imersão. Além disso, indicam que as legendas produzem maiores pontuações de transporte, identificação com os personagens e percepção de realismo, cuja variação se explica, essencialmente, pela primeira língua dos receptores e seus hábitos de consumo midiático. Os resultados também indicam que nem a presença e nem o prazer são afetados pela condição experimental ou o idioma do receptor. Finalmente, mostram que o transporte é a medida mais reveladora da imersão porque produz as correlações mais fortes e consistentes, além de ser um preditor significativo do prazer dos espectadores.
