Resumo

O jornalista científico é um dos principais responsáveis pela divulgação de toda notícia, novidade ou avanço de caráter científico. Por sua vez, uma informação científica rigorosa, compreensível e de qualidade é, além disso, um indicador do desenvolvimento social. A demanda deste tipo de informação cresce a cada dia em nossa sociedade, tanto por parte dos governos como dos cidadãos. Por este motivo, e com o objetivo de esclarecer qual é o perfil dos jornalistas científicos que devem lidar com tal responsabilidade, como se formaram e como eles mesmos creem que deveriam ter sido formados, nesta pesquisa analisamos os perfis acadêmicos (tanto o real como o ideal) desses profissionais na Espanha. Utilizando uma metodologia etnográfica, baseada em entrevistas, questionários e focus group com jornalistas científicos que trabalham nos principais meios de comunicação espanhóis, analisamos suas trajetórias acadêmicas e suas considerações e propostas a respeito. Os resultados mostram um cenário complexo e heterogêneo, mas também revelam que a maioria dos jornalistas científicos não só não possui uma formação acadêmica no âmbito científico, como tampouco a considera necessária. Os jornalistas científicos são críticos quanto ao sistema educativo e consideram que a melhor maneira de aprender, até mais do que estudar, é adquirir experiência no trabalho.
